It is not completely clear what the origin of English Breakfast is, but drinking a blend of black teas for breakfast is a longstanding English and Irish habit. It is claimed that the term 'English' for breakfast teas originates from the US way back in colonial times.
In the UK the blend was simply called 'breakfast tea' and it is linked to Queen Victoria, who tasted a blend with that name in 1892 during her annual stay at Balmoral. Despite the Scottish roots, it acquired the prefix 'English' over the years.
