Japanese green tea with rice and/or corn - an unusual taste.
Due to the fact that some rice grains pop during the roasting process, this tea is also known as 'popcorn tea'.
In earlier days the rice was used as a filler, making a good quality tea available for poorer people as well. Today all layers of Japanese society value the tea for its sweetish, nutty flavor. It is considered easy to drink and to make the stomach feel better.
It is also a good drink for people fastening -either for religious or other reasons- or who found themselves between meals for a longer time.
