Malabar is a tea garden in west-Java producing tea with a sweet and flowery taste.
The Malabar Tea Estate is hidden in the green hills just south of the city of Bandung on West Java. In the early 19th century these gardens were reclaimed and exploited by the Kerkhoven family. Their family history inspired the famous Dutch author Hella Haasse to write her novel 'Heren van de thee' about the tea culture in the Dutch East Indies in the 19th century.
If you want to experience 'tempo doeloe' go over to Java and visit Malabar. If that is not possible, you can always drink its smooth tea.
