The Rungmook tea garden is situated north of Phuguri, at an altitude of 1700 meters. This garden was founded in 1877, when tea production was booming business in Darjeeling. A century later the garden was in financial trouble, causing mounting arears and disgruntled workers. Rungmook was taken over by Darjeeling Organic Tea Estates Privite Limited (DOTEPL), a company striving to revive such 'sick' tea gardens and run them on the principles of environmental, economic and social sustainability. Nowadays Rungmook produces a fragrant organic fair trade tea.
The Rungmook First Flush is the more spicy (when compared to Phuguri F.F. 2022) of the two, with a hint of muscatel.
